Early On® Public Awareness
Public awareness includes activities which are designed to communicate information to the community, through a variety of media (e.g. radio and television public service announcements, newspaper and advertisements, and marketing materials), about child development in the first years of life and resources which may be available to families who have concerns about the development of their children.
Child find is a component of Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), implemented in Michigan as Early On® Michigan, which requires states to identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities, from birth to 3, who are in need of early intervention services. The Office of Innovative Projects at Clinton County Regional Educational Service Agency (CCRESA) is pleased to offer Early On® Public Awareness (EOPA), to assist Michigan in meeting the child find requirements for Early On.
Early On Public Awareness is responsible for the implementation of a comprehensive public awareness plan, including: the statewide toll-free referral line; outreach to communities; material development and management of dissemination; and the Central Directory.
I was really beginning to worry that there was something wrong with my 16-month-old daughter. She wasn’t trying to stand up and she would eat only the same few things. She was so different from my other kids. I told our pediatrician how concerned I was and she pointed to the Early On poster on the wall. She said that Early On could help us figure out what was going on with Jamie and get us any assistance we might need if it turned out that Jamie’s development really was delayed.
In our community, you don’t have to wonder where to go if you’re concerned about your baby’s development – lucky for me and my family! -Fictional parent of a 16-month-old in a community with a rigorous public awareness program
